Bihar's New Lifeline: Bhupatipur-Punpun Opens!

On June 16, 2025, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated the Bhupatipur–Punpun (NH-22) elevated and at-grade road corridor—an integral part of the Mithapur–Mahuli–Punpun infrastructure project. Developed by Afcons Infrastructure, the project links Bhupatipur, Sipara, Mahuli, and Punpun, slashing travel time from nearly one hour to just 10 minutes and benefiting lakhs of daily commuters.

The newly opened stretch includes a 5 km elevated four-lane roadway, 10 km of at-grade four-lane road, and a 1 km ramp—designed to support travel speeds of up to 100 km/hr. Phase II of the project was completed in just 19 months, five months ahead of its 24-month schedule, highlighting exceptional project management and execution.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin, and other senior officials.

Construction posed significant challenges, including live traffic management, road widening from 7 to 17 meters, and the erection of 1,764 precast segments across 112 spans. In the densely populated Bhupatipur area, innovative techniques such as splice girders and monopole jack stressing were employed to ensure timely delivery without disrupting local life.
