Bihar's Industrial Future: Bhagalpur Biorefinery's 147 Crore Project

Bhagalpur Biorefinery Private Limited is poised to make a significant impact in the biofuel industry with its latest venture in Kakwara Tola Paharidih village, Banka district, Bihar. With an investment of ₹147 Crore, the project is centered around the establishment of a new grain-based distillery unit. This state-of-the-art facility is designed with a substantial capacity of 200 Kilo Liters Per Day (KLPD), specifically for the production of ethanol, a key component in the biofuel sector.

The choice of raw materials for ethanol production is notably strategic, focusing on damaged grain, broken rice, maize, bajra, and sorghum. These materials are not only cost-effective but also readily available in the local market, ensuring a sustainable supply chain. This approach not only supports the project's viability but also contributes to the local economy by providing a market for crops that might otherwise go to waste.

A highlight of the Bhagalpur Biorefinery project is its integrated co-generation coal-based power plant, boasting a capacity of 9 Megawatt (MW). This facility is designed to generate electricity by harnessing the process heat, a move that underscores the project's commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. By using coal in a cogeneration setup, the plant optimizes energy use, reducing waste and lowering carbon emissions compared to traditional power generation methods.

Moreover, the project takes a responsible approach to environmental management by capturing and liquefying the carbon dioxide (CO2) produced during the distillation process. This byproduct is then stored and sold, finding applications in various industries. Such an initiative not only mitigates the environmental impact of the distillery's operations but also adds an additional revenue stream, exemplifying a circular economy model in action.
