AquaBoom: Maharashtra's ₹18,842 Cr Water Plan

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved four major dam and irrigation projects totaling ₹18,842 crore, aimed at enhancing the state's water supply and agricultural infrastructure.

In Raigad district, two significant dam projects in Karjat will improve drinking water availability in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). A ₹6,394.13 crore dam on the Poshir River (12.344 TMC capacity) will allocate 7.933 TMC for drinking and 1.859 TMC for industrial use, serving Navi Mumbai, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath, and Badlapur. A second dam on the Shilar River (6.61 TMC capacity) will supply drinking water to Panvel and Navi Mumbai.

The Cabinet also approved a revised administrative sanction of ₹5,329.46 crore for the Sulwade Jamphal Kanoli Lift Irrigation Scheme in Dhule district. With ₹2,407.67 crore already spent, the project aims to irrigate 36,407 hectares in Shindkheda and Dhule tehsils.

In Sindhudurg, ₹2,250 crore has been allocated for an irrigation project under the Aruna Project, expected to benefit 5,310 hectares across Vaibhav Wadi and Rajapur tehsils.
