Amaravati's Mega-Development: A ₹58,000 Crore Vision Realized

On May 2, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects exceeding ₹58,000 crore in Amaravati, reaffirming the vision of the city as Andhra Pradesh’s dream capital. Highlighting Amaravati’s potential, PM Modi described it as “a fulfilled dream” and a city “where tradition and development walk hand in hand.”

A significant portion of the investment—₹49,000 crore—has been earmarked for 74 key infrastructure projects. These include the construction of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Secretariat, High Court, and residential quarters for judicial officers.

PM Modi assured the Centre’s full support in transforming Amaravati into a national hub for IT, artificial intelligence, green energy, clean industries, education, and healthcare. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, who originally conceptualised the capital, announced that India’s first Quantum Valley—a dedicated hub for quantum computing—will be inaugurated in Amaravati on January 1, 2026. Modi also reflected on his longstanding admiration for Naidu’s work in the IT sector during his own tenure as Gujarat’s Chief Minister.

Development contracts worth approximately ₹37,702 crore have already been awarded. The Union Government has committed ₹15,000 crore, while both the World Bank and Asian Development Bank (ADB) are contributing $800 million each. Additionally, HUDCO will extend ₹11,000 crore in loans, and discussions are underway for a further ₹5,000 crore in funding from Germany’s KfW Bank.
