Airside Progress vs. Terminal Stalls at Bihta International

Construction work at the upcoming Bihta International Airport is progressing steadily across multiple major infrastructure components, though delays have been reported in the construction of the terminal building.

The terminal remains the most crucial element of the airport expansion project, and officials have not yet confirmed a revised completion timeline. In contrast, work on key airside infrastructure, including the apron, taxiways, and boundary walls, is advancing in phases.

Authorities said apron construction is moving at a faster pace and is being designed to accommodate larger aircraft in the future. The apron will function as the primary zone for aircraft parking, passenger boarding and deboarding, and aircraft servicing operations. Meanwhile, boundary wall construction covering 108 acres has already been completed, with work continuing on an additional eight acres acquired more recently. Officials noted that the boundary infrastructure is vital for ensuring compliance with airport security standards.

Taxiway development is also in progress; however, nearly half of the planned alignment falls within land controlled by the Indian Air Force, making coordination between the Air Force and the civil aviation authorities an important aspect of the project’s execution.
