Adani Power Ltd (APL), India’s largest private thermal power producer, has completed the ₹4,000 crore acquisition of Vidarbha Industries Power Ltd (VIPL)—a 600 MW coal-based thermal power project located in Butibori, Nagpur, Maharashtra.
The acquisition was finalised on 7 July 2025, following the Mumbai Bench of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approving APL’s resolution plan on 18 June under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC). VIPL comprises two 300 MW domestic coal-fired units, and its addition brings APL’s total operational capacity to 18,150 MW.
APL aims to expand its generation portfolio to 30,670 MW by FY30 through a mix of greenfield and brownfield developments. The company is currently developing six ultra-supercritical thermal power projects (USCTPPs) of 1,600 MW each at Singrauli-Mahan (Madhya Pradesh), Raigarh and Korba (Chhattisgarh), Kawai (Rajasthan), and a greenfield USCTPP in Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh). Additionally, it is reviving a 1,320 MW project in Korba.
In 2025, Adani Power generated 100 billion units of electricity, the highest ever by a private power company in India, according to Chairman Gautam Adani.
