Adani Lights Up Bihar with Landmark ₹24,900 Crore Power Deal

Adani Power has signed a 25-year Power Supply Agreement (PSA) with Bihar State Power Generation Company (BSPGCL) to deliver 2,400 MW from a new ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur. The ₹24,900 crore (USD 3 billion) greenfield project will be developed under the Design, Build, Finance, Own, Operate (DBFOO) model and feature three units of 800 MW each, with commissioning targeted within 60 months.

Adani secured the contract with a competitive tariff of ₹6.075 per kWh. The plant will source coal under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy and is expected to generate 10,000–12,000 jobs during construction and around 3,000 during operations.

This project expands Adani Power’s footprint beyond its current 18,110 MW thermal capacity across eight states and 40 MW solar capacity in Gujarat. It follows a recent 1,600 MW project win in Madhya Pradesh worth ₹21,000 crore at ₹5.838 per kWh. Over the last year, Adani Power has secured five major PSAs, adding 7,200 MW to its order pipeline.
