In response to the severe water shortage in Khoda, Ghaziabad, the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam is preparing to submit a new proposal to the state government to supply 50 million litres per day (MLD) of treated Ganga water directly from the Upper Ganga Canal.
Khoda, with approximately 45,000 households, has a daily water demand of 38 MLD but currently receives only 10 MLD, primarily through water tankers and temporary arrangements.
“After Noida refused to share its Ganga water allocation, we began exploring alternative sources,” said Rajesh Kumar Pankaj, Chief Engineer, UP Jal Nigam (Ghaziabad zone).
The earlier ₹183 crore project, planned under AMRUT 2.0, had stalled after the Noida Authority declined to divert water from the Pratap Vihar treatment plant. The revised proposal now envisions a dedicated supply line from the Upper Ganga Canal, requiring new infrastructure to be developed along NH-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
If approved, the project is expected to provide a long-term, sustainable water supply for Khoda, reducing dependence on temporary solutions and improving the quality of life for residents.
