India’s Finance Minister has conferred Navratna status on Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), making it the 27th company to receive this prestigious designation. The Navratna classification grants NRL enhanced financial and operational autonomy, enabling it to undertake larger investments without prior government approval.
Located in Assam and operated under the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, NRL is a subsidiary of Oil India with a refining capacity of 3 MTPA. The company is currently executing a major expansion project to triple its capacity to 9 MTPA, aimed at meeting the rising fuel demand in India’s northeast and strengthening the region’s energy infrastructure.
For FY 2024–25, NRL reported a turnover of ₹25,147 crore and a net profit of ₹1,608 crore.
