A Green Go-Ahead: Delhi's Ridge Management Board Clears 6 Projects

The Ridge Management Board (RMB), reconvening after a year on July 18, has approved six key infrastructure and conservation projects in Delhi, pending final clearance from the Central Empowered Committee and the Supreme Court.

The approved proposals include:

A bamboo café and water trough at Sanjay Van, Conservation of historical monuments in Sanjay Van, Sewer line installation at Smriti Van, Construction of Madhya Pradesh’s new state guest house in Vasant Kunj, Defence infrastructure development at Nausena Bhawan, Delhi Cantonment, Expansion of Balak Ram Hospital in Timarpur

The Madhya Pradesh guest house may require the felling or transplantation of 215 trees, subject to approval under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act (DPTA), 1994. In Sanjay Van, 16 trees will be relocated for conservation works, while the bamboo café will cause no tree loss.

The Balak Ram Hospital expansion aims to improve emergency access, with nine trees obstructing the proposed entry. The defence project covers over 8 hectares and is estimated at ₹450 crore.
