110 Projects, $1 Lakh Crore: Sagarmala Transforms Andhra Coast

Andhra Pradesh has identified over 110 projects under the Sagarmala Programme, with a combined investment potential exceeding ₹1 lakh crore, aimed at strengthening port-led development and enhancing coastal infrastructure across the state.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal informed Parliament during the ongoing Winter Session that these projects are being implemented by multiple agencies, including Union ministries, the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Andhra Pradesh government, and the Visakhapatnam Port Authority. He noted that under the Sagarmala initiative, the Centre is partially funding nine projects in the state, with an outlay of ₹1,286 crore.

The projects cover a wide range of interventions such as port modernisation, improved road and rail connectivity, inland waterways, development of fishing harbours, roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) services, and coastal community development. While several projects have already been completed, others are at various stages of implementation, according to the Shipping Ministry.

Officials stated that the initiatives are expected to enhance cargo handling capacity, expand port infrastructure, stimulate local economic growth, and attract additional private investment into the state’s maritime sector.
