Cleantech company Attero, India’s leading lithium-ion battery recycler, has partnered with the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE)—an autonomous body under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE)—to advance solar panel recycling efforts in India.
The collaboration, formalised through a memorandum of understanding (MoU), aims to address the growing challenge of solar panel waste amid India’s accelerating transition to renewable energy. NISE will provide technical expertise and insights into the country's solar infrastructure, supporting Attero’s R&D efforts in developing effective solar panel recycling solutions.
As part of the initiative, a pilot project will be launched using end-of-life solar panels supplied by NISE to evaluate and refine recycling technologies developed by both organisations.
Looking ahead, the partnership is also exploring the establishment of a dedicated testing and research facility on the NISE campus. This centre would foster innovation and serve as a hub for advancing recycling technologies for both solar panels and lithium-ion batteries.
