Primegold International, now rebranded as Primegold Steel & Power, is making a strategic shift towards sustainable manufacturing with its entry into green steel production. As a key step in this transition, the company will establish a 20 MW solar power plant in Ariyalur, Tamil Nadu, to cater to its captive energy needs.
This solar facility will play a crucial role in powering Primegold’s green steel operations, helping reduce its carbon footprint and align its processes with global sustainability goals. The company has already acquired the required land and funding for the project. The Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA) has approved a Rs 65 crore loan, enabling construction to commence in April.
This move builds on Primegold’s existing footprint in the renewable energy space, particularly in wind energy, and is reinforced by long-term renewable power purchase agreements. It also follows the company’s strategic backward integration in 2020, marked by the commissioning of a steel melting furnace.
Primegold Steel & Power’s investment in solar energy highlights its commitment to responsible growth and a cleaner, greener future for steel manufacturing.
