Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL) has officially commenced commercial operations at its 85 MW solar photovoltaic power plant in Nagda, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, as of 24 April 2025. The project has been executed by Powergrid Energy Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of PGCIL, as confirmed in an official regulatory filing.
This new solar plant enhances PGCIL’s renewable energy portfolio and aligns with the Indian government’s commitment to a clean energy transition. It is part of Powergrid’s broader strategy to diversify into green energy, contributing to national renewable capacity goals. The project not only supports India’s clean energy agenda but also boosts local energy generation and fosters job creation in Madhya Pradesh.
In addition, Powergrid has announced the full commissioning of the POWERGRID Raipur Pool Dhamtari Transmission project, which became operational on 26 March 2025. Secured through the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process, this transmission project underscores Powergrid’s capability to execute complex power infrastructure projects across India.
The successful launch of the Nagda solar plant reflects Powergrid’s commitment to integrating renewable generation assets with the national grid, furthering the decentralisation and decarbonisation of India’s energy system.
