NHPC Lights Up Jalaun with 1200 MW Solar Project

NHPC has announced plans to develop a 1,200 MW solar park in Jalaun, Uttar Pradesh, with an estimated investment of Rs 796.9 crore. The project will be implemented by Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL), a joint venture between NHPC and the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA).

This solar initiative falls under the Government of India’s "Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks" (UMREPP) program, in line with guidelines from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

The project cost includes Rs 42.7 crore earmarked for interest during construction and equity infusion into BSUL. NHPC plans to fund the project through a mix of internal accruals and borrowings.

To support this and other ongoing initiatives, NHPC’s board approved a borrowing plan in March 2025 for the financial year 2025–26, authorizing the company to raise up to Rs 6,300 crore. Financing options include secured or unsecured redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCDs), term loans, and external commercial borrowings in phases.
