2.65 Lakh Solar Roofs This Year: UP's Ambitious Plan

The Uttar Pradesh government has set an ambitious target to install eight lakh solar rooftop systems across the state by March 2027 under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana. For the 2024–25 financial year, the goal is to install 2.65 lakh units, with a monthly target of 22,000 installations—averaging 300 systems per district. Targets have been defined at multiple levels including district, DISCOM, municipal corporation, and municipality to ensure smooth implementation.

The project is being led by the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) and monitored in real-time via integration with the Chief Minister’s dashboard. The initiative aims to bring solar energy to every household in the state.

As of March 2025, over 10.73 lakh applications have been received, with over one lakh rooftop systems already installed. Currently, around 11,000 installations are completed each month, translating to more than 500 installations per day.

To support this rollout, over 2,500 vendors have been empanelled, and around 1,800 have undergone formal training. Efforts are also being made to strengthen vendors’ financial capabilities through bank loans and credit guarantee schemes.

Training is conducted in partnership with the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD), the Ministry of Skill Development, and UPNEDA, further reinforcing the program’s implementation.
