Samruddhi Mahamarg Fully Open: Mumbai-Nagpur in 7 Hours!

The 701-km-long Samruddhi Mahamarg, officially named the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, becomes fully operational today with the inauguration of its final 76-km stretch between Igatpuri in Nashik and Amane in Thane.

Conceived during Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s first term in 2016, this high-speed, six-lane (expandable to eight) access-controlled greenfield expressway now connects Nagpur to Mumbai in just seven hours. Though commonly called the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway, it technically starts from Amane in Thane district, about 63 km from Mumbai’s Mantralaya.

The ₹55,335-crore infrastructure project required the acquisition of over 8,800 hectares of land from nearly 24,000 farmers across 10 districts. Its first phase was inaugurated in December 2022.

The newly completed Igatpuri-Amane section is especially significant, cutting travel time between the two points from over 90 minutes to just 40, while bypassing the steep and congested Kasara Ghat section of the Mumbai-Nashik Highway.

Offering world-class connectivity, the Samruddhi Mahamarg is poised to be a game-changer for Maharashtra’s logistics, transportation, and economic landscape.
