The State Highways Department is constructing an eight-kilometre, two-lane road along the northern bank of the Vaigai River, stretching from near Kamarajar Bridge in Arapalayam to Samayanallur on NH-44, with completion targeted by February 2026.
Designed to ease traffic congestion, the new road will provide an alternative route for vehicles heading toward the Dindigul National Highway, which currently pass through the heavily congested Fatima College Road. The ₹176-crore project, launched in September 2024, includes retaining walls along the riverbank to prevent erosion and two bridges over canals near Paravai to ensure smooth connectivity.
The road will connect to NH-44 toward Kanniyakumari, benefiting motorists traveling to Virudhunagar, Dindigul, and other southern districts. Once completed, it is expected to significantly improve road safety, reduce congestion, and enhance travel efficiency in the region.
