The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to advance the development of a four-lane highway between Barabanki and Bahraich at an estimated cost of ₹6,927 crore.
The proposed highway, spanning approximately 101 km, is expected to significantly enhance road connectivity between India and Nepal while reducing travel time between Barabanki and Bahraich from several hours to about one hour. Designed to accommodate up to 38,000 vehicles per day, the upgraded corridor will help ease congestion and support long-term regional growth.
The project is expected to benefit residents, traders, and transporters across Barabanki, Bahraich, and surrounding areas by improving access to markets, healthcare facilities, and key economic centres. Around 325 hectares of land have already been identified for the project. In addition to the main carriageway, service roads will be developed to improve local connectivity and road safety.
The proposal is currently awaiting financial clearance, which is expected by mid-2026. Once approved, the project will move into the tendering and construction phases.
