Telangana has unveiled plans for a new greenfield expressway connecting Hyderabad and Vijayawada, aimed at slashing travel time between the two cities to just two hours.
State Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy announced the project during an inspection of Vanasthalipuram Junction, emphasizing its potential to boost regional connectivity and accelerate economic development. He also reviewed progress on the LB Nagar–Pedda Amberpet elevated corridor, a 6-km, Rs 650 crore initiative designed to ease urban traffic and link to the Outer Ring Road. Four vehicle underpasses have already been completed.
Key updates on other infrastructure initiatives include:
The Rs 2,300 crore Gauravelli–Valigonda–Bhadrachalam Greenfield Highway, where construction has begun on the Valigonda–Thorrur stretch, while tenders are being finalized for the Thorrur–Bhadrachalam section.
The Rs 375 crore Andole Maisamma–Vijayawada road project, now underway.
Additionally, the government has identified 17 accident-prone black spots for priority safety upgrades. To improve efficiency and financing of upcoming road projects, the state will adopt the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), encouraging public-private partnership.
