The Gujarat government has approved a ₹2,609 crore initiative to resurface and upgrade Panchayat-managed roads across the state, aimed at strengthening the rural road network and ensuring all-weather connectivity.
The plan covers 1,258 roads spanning 4,196 km, with regional distribution as follows:
North Gujarat: 487 roads, 1,609 km, South Gujarat: 499 roads, 1,528 km, Saurashtra: 272 roads, 1,059 km
The move comes in response to long-standing demands from local representatives and rural communities for durable, year-round road infrastructure.
Government officials noted that the upgraded roads will enhance intra-village and inter-town connectivity, support transportation of goods and services, and boost local economies. The initiative is expected to facilitate trade, improve access to education and healthcare, and drive socio-economic development across Gujarat’s rural regions.
The government reiterated its commitment to inclusive infrastructure development, positioning rural road enhancement as a critical enabler of long-term, sustainable growth.
