The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has set four Guinness World Records on the Bengaluru–Kadapa–Vijayawada Economic Corridor (NH-544G), achieving a global first in highway construction.
The records include the longest continuous laying of bituminous concrete—28.89 lane km completed within 24 hours—and the highest quantity laid in the same period at 10,655 metric tonnes. Two additional records were achieved on January 11, when continuous paving of 156 lane km and laying of 57,500 tonnes of bituminous concrete were completed, surpassing previous world benchmarks.
The record-setting work was carried out across Packages 2 and 3 of the six-lane, 343-km corridor, which is being developed for safe, high-speed travel and will feature tunnels, interchanges and wayside amenities.
“Setting four Guinness World Records reflects our commitment to innovation, efficiency and world-class engineering,” a senior NHAI official said. The corridor is expected to significantly enhance connectivity, improve road safety and offer a scenic travel experience, while showcasing India’s leadership in large-scale highway construction.
