The Assam government has approved an ambitious infrastructure project worth ₹3,875 crore to enhance road connectivity in Dima Hasao district — the largest-ever state investment in the region. The initiative includes the construction and upgradation of 348 km of roads across five key routes, all to be developed to national highway standards.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the Cabinet's decision on June 4, stating, “Five roads in Dima Hasao have been identified for upgrade to national highway specifications. Once implemented, this will greatly improve regional connectivity and unlock significant tourism potential.”
Funding for the project will be shared between the Central and State governments, with the Centre contributing 80% and Assam covering the remaining 20%. Work is expected to begin once flood conditions subside.
In addition, the Cabinet approved ₹1,450 crore for the Mega Mission Society under the Chief Minister Samagra Gramya Unnayan Yojana to support flagship initiatives including CMAAA, MMMUA, and dairy infrastructure development. A separate allocation of ₹843 crore was made to the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) for FY 2025–26. To strengthen law enforcement, 35 Superintendent of Police (SP) positions have also been upgraded to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) across various districts.
