Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has stated that the Tanakpur–Lipulekh road via Pithoragarh is targeted for completion within the next year.
The ₹5,200 crore strategic highway project is aimed at improving connectivity in Uttarakhand’s border regions and strengthening infrastructure in the Himalayan terrain. Speaking at a public event in Dehradun, the minister noted that of the total 370 km stretch, around 200 km has been completed, while the remaining portion continues to face significant challenges. Despite these constraints, he expressed confidence in completing the project within the stipulated timeline.
The road is expected to significantly enhance mobility, defence logistics, and regional connectivity in remote border areas, supporting year-round accessibility.
The event also marked the inauguration of the six-lane Delhi–Dehradun Economic Corridor, a 213 km access-controlled highway developed at a cost of over ₹12,000 crore. The corridor is set to reduce travel time between Delhi and Dehradun from over six hours to approximately two and a half hours, providing a boost to tourism, trade, and regional economic activity.
