The construction of the Panaji–Hyderabad Expressway, a key component of the Bharatmala Pariyojana under the Hyderabad–Panaji Economic Corridor, is progressing steadily across Karnataka.
The four-lane, access-controlled highway aims to enhance freight movement and strengthen economic connectivity between Goa, Karnataka and Telangana by linking Panaji, Belagavi, Raichur and Hyderabad. In Bagalkot district, around 90 per cent of land acquisition for the 102-km stretch has been completed, and civil works are already in progress. The project involves an investment of approximately ₹12,000 crore by the Union government and is being implemented under the hybrid annuity mode (HAM).
Within Karnataka, the expressway is being developed in four packages, two of which pass through Bagalkot district, where over 645 hectares of land have been acquired and nine major flyovers are planned. The new alignment is expected to spur commercial activity along the corridor and facilitate smoother transport of commodities such as sugarcane, cement, minerals, cotton and fruits. Scheduled for completion within the next two years, the expressway is expected to play a significant role in driving regional economic growth.
