Tracking Growth: Massive ₹10,134 Crore Boost for Andhra Railways

Indian Railways has announced that Andhra Pradesh has achieved 100 percent railway electrification, marking a significant milestone in the state’s transport modernisation efforts.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw confirmed the development while also announcing the formation of a new South Coastal Railway zone, which will become operational from June 1, 2026, following an official gazette notification. The new zone is expected to improve administrative efficiency and streamline railway operations in the region.

The minister noted that Andhra Pradesh has received a record railway budget allocation of ₹10,134 crore, compared to ₹886 crore earlier for the combined Andhra Pradesh–Telangana region. At present, railway projects worth around ₹1.06 lakh crore are under execution across the state.

Key infrastructure developments include the redevelopment of 74 railway stations, construction of 832 flyovers and underpasses, and significant track expansion. So far, 1,759 km of railway track has been completed, with an additional 3,300 km currently under construction.

These investments are aimed at improving connectivity to ports, tourism destinations, and major urban centres, positioning Andhra Pradesh as a key hub for railway infrastructure growth while supporting long-term mobility and economic development.
