Titagarh x ABB: Powering the Future of Driverless Rail

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) and ABB India have expanded their strategic partnership through a new agreement to jointly develop advanced propulsion systems and enable technology transfer for 25 kV driverless Metro projects in India.

The agreement covers the design, manufacture, and commissioning of propulsion systems, along with the transfer of technology for the Train Control and Monitoring System (TCMS) for 25 kV AC Metro applications, with capability to be upgraded to Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4). It also предусматривает the phased localisation, manufacturing, and co-production of converters and traction motors, in line with the Government of India’s “Make in India” programme.

Titagarh has already secured a contract to supply 240 Metro coaches to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for Metro Line 5 and Line 6. The expanded collaboration with ABB is expected to strengthen Titagarh’s technological capabilities and support the development of indigenous solutions for next-generation Metro systems.

The agreement further reinforces Titagarh’s commitment to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative by promoting localisation, skill development, and self-reliance in advanced rail technologies.
