The Telangana government has submitted the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and all necessary documentation to the Central government for the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase-2(B) expansion. Already approved by the state cabinet, the proposal envisions an 86.1-km network across three corridors, with a total estimated cost of ₹19,579 crore.
This move follows a recent meeting between Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar, during which the CM stressed the strategic importance of the Metro expansion for Hyderabad’s urban mobility.
According to NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Metro Rail, the Phase-2(B) project will be executed as a joint venture between the Central and state governments, following the model used for Phase-2(A).
The proposed corridors include:
RGIA to Bharat Future City (Skills University) – 39.6 km | ₹7,168 crore
JBS to Medchal – 24.5 km | ₹6,946 crore
JBS to Shamirpet – 22 km | ₹5,465 crore
The project will follow a multi-source funding model:
Telangana government: ₹5,874 crore (30%)
Central government: ₹3,524 crore (18%)
Debt from international financial institutions: ₹9,398 crore (48%)
Public-Private Partnership (PPP): ₹783 crore (4%)
The Phase-2(B) expansion is a significant step in strengthening Hyderabad’s public transportation network and supporting its rapid urban growth.
