Race On for Chennai Metro Line-4's Electrical and Mechanical Heart

Four companies have submitted bids for Chennai Metro Line-4’s contract covering electrical and mechanical (E&M), plumbing, and fire protection systems, following the opening of technical bids by Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL).

The contract, identified as C4-E&M-06, is part of the 116.1 km Chennai Metro Phase-2 project, which aims to improve urban connectivity across multiple corridors. Line-4 will run 26.09 km from Light House to Poonamallee Bypass, featuring 30 stations, including a 10 km underground section between Power House Ramp and Light House Station via twin tunnels.

This tender covers system works at eight underground stations: Light House, Kutchery Road, Alwarpet, Bharatidasan Road, Boat Club, Nandanam, Panagal Park, and Kodambakkam. Civil construction at these stations is currently being handled by ITD Cementation India, which won the UG-01 (5.15 km) and UG-02 (4.87 km) packages in January 2022.

The bidders for this specialized package include Blue Star, IRCON International, Jakson, and Universal MEP Projects & Engineering Services (a subsidiary of Voltas). This E&M contract is crucial for making the underground stations operational, encompassing the installation of electrical systems, mechanical infrastructure, plumbing networks, and fire safety solutions.
