The proposed Kochi Metro Phase 3 extension from Aluva to Angamaly via Kochi International Airport has reached a critical milestone, with Systra MVA Consulting India commencing work on the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
Commissioned by Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), the consultant has been tasked with submitting the DPR within six months, at a contract value of Rs 1.03 crore. The project aims to significantly boost connectivity and catalyse regional growth. According to KMRL Managing Director Loknath Behera, the long-anticipated corridor will provide world-class transit access, particularly benefiting air travelers and suburban commuters.
The Phase 3 alignment includes a 17.5-km elevated viaduct and approximately three kilometres of underground track. The DPR will cover detailed engineering surveys, field investigations, and alignment studies.
The report is being funded under the Central Financial Assistance Scheme of the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. The DPR process experienced initial delays after RITES, the original frontrunner, was disqualified due to cost constraints, necessitating a re-tender that led to Systra MVA’s selection.
