Bengaluru's Yellow Line: A New Era of Connectivity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Yellow Line of Bengaluru Metro on August 10, connecting Rashtriya Vidyalaya Road in South Bengaluru to Bommasandra in the east.

Part of Namma Metro Phase 2, the 19.15-km corridor features 16 stations and has been developed at a cost of Rs 5,057 crore. The new line is expected to significantly ease congestion along the Hosur Road corridor, benefiting thousands of daily commuters to Electronic City and nearby industrial zones. It is projected to serve up to 8 lakh passengers per day, with travel times reduced by up to 60% in some high-traffic segments, including the Silk Board junction. Notably, Infosys and Biocon funded the construction of Konappana Agrahara and Hebbagodi stations, respectively.

During the same event, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Orange Line, a 44.65-km corridor under Phase 3 of the metro expansion. With 31 stations and an estimated cost of Rs 15,611 crore, the Orange Line will connect Magadi Road to the Outer Ring Road, serving areas with a high concentration of Global Capability Centres (GCCs). Completion is targeted for 2029.

Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya noted that both projects, with a combined investment of nearly Rs 20,000 crore, will directly benefit around 2.5 million residents, and thanked the Prime Minister for his continued support for Bengaluru’s transport infrastructure.
