NCRTC Signs ₹450 Crore PPA to Run Namo Bharat on Clean Energy

The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) secured a significant green energy milestone by signing a power purchase agreement (PPA) for a 110 MW solar power plant. Built at an estimated cost of Rs 450 crore in Jaulan, Uttar Pradesh, the captive solar facility will supply nearly 60 percent of the electricity required to operate the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor.

Power from the plant will be channeled through the Uttar Pradesh state grid to feed NCRTC substations across both Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. To ensure long-term financial stability, the agreement locks in a fixed electricity tariff for a 25-year period, shielding the transport network from market volatility. Energy expenses traditionally comprise 30 to 35 percent of the corridor's total operating costs.

Transitioning to this renewable energy source yields dual benefits for the organization, cutting annual electricity expenditures by roughly 25 percent. Simultaneously, the green initiative prevents approximately 1.77 lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year, reinforcing sustainable public transit infrastructure in the region.
