Tehri PSP: 250 MW Unit Launched, Securing India's Power Future.

The Tehri hydropower complex has reached a major milestone with the commercial launch of the third 250 MW unit at the 1,000 MW Tehri variable-speed pumped storage plant (PSP).

Power Minister Manohar Lal inaugurated the unit during a virtual event from New Delhi. With this addition, Tehri becomes the largest variable-speed PSP developed by a central public sector enterprise and a flagship project for advanced hydropower technology in India. The unit’s commissioning enhances operational flexibility, particularly amid rising integration of renewable energy, and marks a key step in the country’s clean-energy transition. The Minister noted the project’s contribution to national system stability and energy planning.

Minister of State for Power Shripad Y. Naik praised THDC India for its leadership in the sector, while Power Secretary Pankaj Agarwal acknowledged the company’s achievement in bringing major projects online this year.
