Reliance Powers Up Green Future with Jamnagar Gigafactories

Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL), led by Mukesh Ambani, is preparing to commission its clean energy gigafactories in Jamnagar, Gujarat over the next four to six quarters, as outlined in a company presentation dated July 18, 2025.

The upcoming facilities will manufacture solar photovoltaic panels, batteries, and electrolysers for green hydrogen production, and are expected to reduce Reliance’s overall energy costs by at least 25%.

Strategically located near the company’s Jamnagar oil refinery complex—the largest in the world—the gigafactories are central to RIL’s renewable energy transition strategy. Chief Financial Officer V. Srikanth stated that Reliance will explore strategic partnerships for its green energy vertical once operations stabilize, including financing arrangements and long-term offtake agreements. “It’s win-win in multiple ways,” he said, highlighting the collaborative potential of the initiative.

In a parallel effort to localize its supply chain, Reliance is also constructing India’s largest solar glass manufacturing facility. With around 70% of India’s solar glass currently imported, the move is expected to reduce dependency on foreign suppliers, especially after the anti-dumping duties introduced in May 2025, which are encouraging greater domestic production.
