NHPC Limited has marked a major operational breakthrough at its flagship 2,000 MW Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, located on the Subansiri River along the Arunachal Pradesh–Assam border. On October 12, 2026, the company successfully synchronised its fifth 250 MW generating unit with the National Grid.
This achievement brings the project’s cumulative synchronised capacity to 1,250 MW, making it NHPC’s largest operating hydroelectric facility at a single location. Designed with eight 250 MW units in total, the project is slated to generate approximately 7,422 million units (MU) of clean electricity annually once fully operational, substantially bolstering India’s power infrastructure and renewable energy footprint.
