Kudankulam Units 3 & 4 Get 50 MW 'Start-Up Power' from Unit 1

To expedite the commissioning of Units 3 and 4 at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (KKNPP), the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) has approved the allocation of 50 MW of unallocated power from Unit 1 to support start-up and commissioning activities.

Effective 19 October 2025, this allocation follows a request from the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and will remain in place until further notice. In line with the Union Ministry of Power’s guidelines, NPCIL is authorized to draw up to 50 MW specifically for start-up operations.

Units 3 and 4, currently under construction, are expected to achieve full operational capacity by January 2026. The Tamil Nadu government has sought full allocation of power from these upcoming units, though a final decision on distribution is still pending. As of now, construction progress stands at approximately 78 percent, with several key infrastructure milestones already completed.
