JSW Powers Up West Bengal: Salboni's 1600 MW Project

JSW Thermal Energy has submitted an application for environmental clearance (EC) for its proposed 2x800 MW coal-based ultra-supercritical thermal power plant in Salboni, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal. The total project area spans 724.38 hectares and is categorized as an ‘A’ category project under the EIA Notification of September 2006 and its subsequent amendments.

The proposal is currently under review by the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC – Thermal Power Projects) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for the grant of Terms of Reference (ToR).

The project originates from a tender issued by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Limited (WBPDCL) for a 2x800 MW thermal power plant under a Power Supply Agreement (PPA) using the Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. JSW Thermal Energy was selected as the successful bidder by the Government of West Bengal for the development and operation of the plant.
