A new Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) project titled “NERGS-III Siang Basin” has been proposed to facilitate the evacuation of hydropower from upcoming projects in Arunachal Pradesh, under the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) route.
With an estimated cost of ₹1,804 crore, the project is targeted for commissioning by February 2029. PFC Consulting Ltd. (PFCCL) has been designated as the Bid Process Coordinator, following clearance by the National Committee on Transmission (NCT). Final approval is currently pending from the Union Ministry of Power.
The scheme will establish transmission infrastructure for two key hydropower projects located in Shi-Yomi district:
Heo HEP (3×80 MW), Tato-I HEP (3×62 MW)
Both projects are being developed by NEEPCO, a subsidiary of NTPC.
In addition to current requirements, the transmission system is also designed to accommodate future hydropower developments in the Siang sub-basin, which has a projected generation potential of 5,600 MW by 2035.
Key components of the project include:
A 400/220 kV GIS substation at Kaying, A 400 kV GIS switching station at Niglok, 400 kV double-circuit (quad) transmission lines:, Kaying–Niglok (100 km), Niglok–Gogamukh (125 km)
This transmission infrastructure will be critical in unlocking Arunachal Pradesh's vast hydropower potential and integrating clean energy into the national grid.
