Powering Up: PGCIL Unlocks 8.1 GW Solar Surge from Rajasthan

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has successfully commissioned a key inter-state transmission project to evacuate 8.1 GW of solar power from designated renewable energy zones in Rajasthan.

The project was completed through its subsidiary, POWERGRID Bhadla Sikar Transmission Limited, as part of Phase II – Part E of the national transmission system strengthening scheme. Operational from January 14, 2026, the project significantly enhances grid capacity, enabling large-scale integration of solar energy and improving the reliability of power evacuation from Rajasthan’s major solar generation hubs.

The commissioning highlights POWERGRID’s critical role in strengthening India’s transmission infrastructure in support of the country’s renewable energy targets. As the central transmission utility, the company plays a pivotal role in managing high-voltage networks and facilitating the seamless integration of renewable power into the national grid, advancing India’s clean energy transition.
