Powering the North: AESL’s 6,000 MW Solar Lifeline to UP

Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. (AESL) has secured long-term financing for a major high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission project that will play a key role in evacuating renewable energy from Rajasthan’s solar-rich regions to the national power grid.

The project, with an evacuation capacity of 6,000 MW, will span approximately 950 km, linking Bhadla in Rajasthan with Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh through a ±800 kV HVDC transmission system. Scheduled for commissioning by 2029, the line is expected to significantly facilitate large-scale renewable energy integration while improving grid reliability across some of India’s most power-intensive regions. The financing, led by Japanese lenders MUFG Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC), reflects growing international confidence in India’s renewable energy sector.

The project will deploy advanced HVDC technology supplied by Hitachi in collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), leveraging India’s domestic manufacturing capabilities. Overall, the development reinforces India’s broader push towards a sustainable and resilient energy transition.
