Bengaluru-Mangaluru Rail: The Missing Link is Electrified

The completion of electrification of the 55-km Sakleshpur–Subrahmanya Ghat section marks a major milestone for the Bengaluru–Mangaluru rail corridor, according to Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta.

The project addresses a key bottleneck on the route and is expected to significantly strengthen rail connectivity between Bengaluru and Mangaluru. Capt Chowta said the electrification will accelerate railway infrastructure development, improve freight movement to the coast, streamline port operations, and stimulate commercial activity across the region.

Highlighting the technical challenges of the Ghat section, the MP noted that electrification will enhance the efficiency and reliability of train services. He added that upgrading the Mangaluru–Bengaluru rail link has been a longstanding priority, with continued efforts to improve capacity and operational performance. “The electrification provides a crucial boost to our coastal railway network,” he said.
