On Time and On Track: Nayara’s 2026 Mega Refinery Turnaround

Nayara Energy has successfully completed the scheduled 2026 turnaround of its 20 million tonne per annum (MTPA) Vadinar refinery in Gujarat, one of India’s largest single-location refining complexes.

The planned maintenance and modernization programme commenced with a refinery shutdown on 9 April 2026 and was completed within the scheduled timeframe, enabling the facility to resume full-scale operations. The turnaround encompassed critical maintenance activities, statutory inspections, equipment overhauls, operational upgrades and value-enhancement initiatives designed to improve refinery reliability, operational efficiency, product quality and long-term asset performance.

The large-scale exercise involved the deployment of more than 34,000 personnel and nearly 480 units of heavy equipment, including around 180 cranes, to execute complex maintenance and upgrade works across multiple refinery units. As part of the programme, Nayara Energy implemented several energy-efficiency initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption, lowering emissions intensity and extending operating cycles between future shutdowns.

To enhance workforce management and site coordination, the company utilized AI-driven personnel movement monitoring systems to manage peak manpower levels exceeding 35,000 workers. Throughout the turnaround period, Nayara Energy ensured uninterrupted fuel supplies across the country through comprehensive inventory management, logistics planning and business continuity measures.

The successful completion of the turnaround strengthens the refinery’s operational reliability and efficiency while reinforcing Nayara Energy’s commitment to safe operations, sustainable performance and supporting India’s growing energy requirements.
