The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has initiated a suo motu bidding process to develop Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) pipeline infrastructure aimed at reducing bulk transportation by road.
The proposed pipeline network is intended to streamline LPG movement, lower dependence on road transport, and provide additional storage support during supply disruptions. The regulator said the initiative is expected to strengthen supply security, especially amid India’s import dependence and global geopolitical uncertainties, including tensions in West Asia and potential disruptions to key routes such as the Strait of Hormuz.
PNGRB added that the long-term objective is to phase out road-based bulk LPG transportation by 2030. The move aligns with broader efforts to build a resilient and future-ready energy infrastructure, promote cleaner fuel usage, and ensure efficient and sustainable energy access.
