CMC and Oil India Join Forces for Rs 150-Cr Biogas Plant in Cuttack

Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) has entered into a concessionaire agreement with Oil India (OIL) for the design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of a 200-tpd municipal solid waste (MSW)-based compressed biogas (CBG) plant at Jagatpur.

The agreement was signed by OIL’s Executive Director Ranjan Goswami and CMC Commissioner Anam Charan Patra, in the presence of Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra.

Under the terms of the MoU, OIL will invest Rs 150 crore to establish the CBG plant, which is designed to be scalable up to 300 tpd within the next three to five years. The facility will convert segregated organic municipal waste into compressed biogas, supporting clean energy initiatives and sustainable waste management practices in the city.

The CMC has earmarked 11.88 acres of land in Ward No. 49 for the plant, which is expected to become operational within 24 months. It is anticipated to generate 70-80 direct employment, along with several indirect work opportunities in related sectors. CMC will be responsible for ensuring a daily supply of 200 tpd of segregated wet waste, while OIL will take charge of the project’s end-to-end execution, including the operation and maintenance over a 25-year concession period.
