State-owned coal producer Coal India Limited announced that its capital expenditure on solar initiatives reached ₹961 crore by the end of January, surpassing its FY26 capex target of ₹957 crore.
In a regulatory filing, the company stated that solar-related capital spending up to January 2026 more than doubled year-on-year from ₹412 crore in the same period last year, reflecting a sharp acceleration in its renewable energy investments.
Coal India also noted a significant decline in the cost of installing solar capacity. The current cost of setting up 1 MW stands at approximately ₹4–4.5 crore, down from ₹5.5–6 crore earlier, driven by improved operational efficiencies and lower equipment prices.
