Green Shift: Coal India Digs Deep into Renewable Energy

Coal India Limited (CIL) is accelerating its expansion into renewable energy, with approximately 524 MW of solar power projects currently under execution as part of its long-term diversification strategy.

The state-owned miner has set a target of developing 5 GW of solar power capacity by 2030 and is steadily building its clean energy portfolio through a combination of operational assets and upcoming projects. As of the end of FY26, Coal India's installed solar capacity stood at around 357 MW, including its 100 MW solar power project at Patan in Gujarat.

The company's renewable energy initiatives reflect its commitment to broadening its business beyond coal mining and supporting India's energy transition objectives. By increasing its presence in the solar power sector, Coal India aims to create a more balanced energy portfolio while contributing to the country's growing demand for clean and sustainable energy sources.
