Yogi Govt's Irrigation Boom: 29 Projects, Millions of Farmers Benefited

Over the past eight years, the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has completed 29 major irrigation projects, significantly expanding the state's agricultural infrastructure. These efforts have added irrigation capacity for 19.11 lakh hectares and directly benefited over 43.53 lakh farmers. Aligned with the vision of delivering “water to every field,” the initiatives aim to boost agricultural productivity, improve water conservation, and strengthen flood control measures.

Among the completed projects, seven large-scale schemes—including the Bansagar Canal, Lahchura Dam, Pahari Dam, Saryu Canal National Project, Arjun Sahayak Canal, UP Water Restructuring (Phase II), and Umarhat Pump (Phase II)—have alone increased irrigation coverage by 18.41 lakh hectares, benefiting 42.28 lakh farmers across 28 districts.

In Bundelkhand, 16 medium-scale projects—such as the Utari and Maudaha dams, Pahuj and Gunta dam rehabilitations, Jamrar Canal, Bandai, Rasin, and Bhawani dams, Ghori Canal, and others—have added 64,104 hectares of irrigation potential and supported 97,312 farmers in eight districts.

Additionally, six small-scale projects—including restorations of the Jakhlon and Jargo canals, Ratouli and Birohiya weirs, and sprinkler systems in Masgaon and Chilli—have provided irrigation to 5,195 hectares and aided 28,183 farmers in Lalitpur, Mahoba, Hamirpur, and Mirzapur districts.

Together, these coordinated efforts underscore the state government’s ongoing commitment to strengthening rural livelihoods, enhancing water resource management, and increasing agricultural resilience across Uttar Pradesh.
