Adani Hydro Energy Five Limited (AHE5L), a wholly-owned step-down subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), has signed a landmark Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for the provision of 1,250 megawatts (MW) of energy storage capacity from its upcoming Pumped Hydro Storage Projects.
The agreement was formally executed on April 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., marking a major step forward in strengthening Uttar Pradesh’s energy infrastructure and supporting the integration of renewable energy into the state’s power grid.
This strategic deal highlights Adani Green Energy’s commitment to expanding its renewable energy capabilities and investing in large-scale storage solutions. Pumped Hydro Storage, a proven and efficient technology, will enable the storage of energy from sources like solar and wind for release during peak demand, enhancing grid stability and renewable energy utilization.
With this agreement, UPPCL will be better equipped to address the intermittency of renewable energy, deliver more reliable electricity to consumers, and improve the resilience of the state's power system.
The initiative aligns with both state and national goals for sustainable energy growth and grid modernization. Further details regarding the financials and project timelines are expected to be announced in due course.
