Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) chairman Sushil Kumar Singh held discussions with a delegation from global logistics major DP World on the proposed Tuna-Tekra container terminal and broader efforts to strengthen cargo capacity and port-led development at Kandla Port.
The meeting took place in Gandhidham and included DP World representatives led by Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director for the SCO region. Talks focused on enhancing maritime infrastructure and improving logistics efficiency at one of India’s key western ports in the Kutch district.
A key highlight was the Tuna-Tekra container terminal project, which is expected to significantly expand cargo handling capacity at Deendayal Port. The initiative is seen as a major step toward modernising infrastructure, improving operational efficiency, and boosting trade along India’s western coast, while also encouraging greater private sector participation.
Discussions also covered the proposed Magrail Pilot Project at Kandla, aimed at exploring advanced rail-based cargo movement technology. The project is expected to improve hinterland connectivity, reduce turnaround time, and lower logistics costs, strengthening the competitiveness of Indian ports.
Both sides explored additional avenues for collaboration, focusing on leveraging global expertise and technology to support India’s growing trade and logistics needs.
The engagement reflects DPA’s continued efforts to partner with leading global operators to enhance infrastructure and efficiency. DP World, already a key player in India’s port and logistics sector, is expanding its presence through strategic investments and partnerships.
Officials noted that such collaborations are crucial for positioning Kandla as a major maritime hub capable of handling increasing cargo volumes while aligning with India’s broader infrastructure and trade development goals.
