The Telangana government is set to enhance its tourism sector with the development of the ‘Somashila Wellness and Spiritual Retreat’ in the Nallamala forests. Backed by ₹68.10 crore in Central assistance under the Special Assistance to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme, the project aims to position Telangana as a global tourism destination.
Tourism Minister Jupally Krishna Rao, along with senior officials, recently reviewed key sites including Somashila, Amaragiri Island, and the Kalwakurthi Lift Irrigation Project. He highlighted tourism's potential to drive economic growth and job creation, noting that Telangana is committed to upgrading destinations to international standards.
The project will be developed across three major tourism clusters:
Cluster 1: Egalapenta Arrival Zone, river cruises, and the Chengu Tribal Experience
Cluster 2: Somashila Wellness and Spiritual Retreat, featuring a boating jetty, cottages, spa, wellness centre, swimming pool, and recreational facilities
Cluster 3: Amaragiri Island, Malleswaram, and Eagalapenta, focused on nature-based and adventure tourism
This initiative underscores Telangana’s strategy to leverage its natural and cultural assets to boost sustainable tourism and regional development.
